Sunday Canadian Corrie Comments, March 11

John may have confessed but Fiz can't be released so quickly and easily. They have to re-start the investigation to follow up on what he's told them. I would imagine they collected all his charts and lists from Jason's flat which corroborates Rosie's story. I fail to understand why Chesney would be uncooporative with the lovely DC Redfearn but Katy had to point out it's all for Fiz. Chesney was the one so anxious to help after all. DC Redfearn, who was so hard on Fiz, now seems to be very considerate and hopeful that Fiz will be exonerated. Just doing my job, ma'am. Meanwhile, Fiz is sentenced to 15 years. And Chesney made sure to instruct the judge that Fiz is innocent and of course what he says is right, the judge should change his mind just because Chesney says so! She's allowed out for John's funeral at least, but as we'll see, that was a bit of a disaster.

As news of John's death gets out, most people are kind of glad he's gone except Julie who always thinks there's good in everyone and gets a gob full for her sympathy from Chesney. Yes, ok, John had some good in him and he wasn't inherently evil but he was too selfish to really be considered A Good Man. Certainly not in the same league as, say, Roy.

To be sure Sally is ready to dance on John's grave, after what he's put Rosie through but even she went a bit over the top, interrupting John's funeral with her nasty vitriol. Fair dues, she was upset that there would be nice things said about John and she's holding a massive grudge over his actions, and that's pretty realistic but it's not as if Rosie was ever hurt or maimed during John's tirades, just scared a bit. But that's Sally for you. She was well out of line and made a right show of herself though she did regret it somewhat, at least.  I think Fiz should have asked her to leave and the minister enforced it from that first sarky undignified remark.

I kind of feel bad for Rosie, being kidnapped twice and told it was all her fault for seducing a "weak man" in the first place. Poor kid. He was the adult and a teacher. He should have been the responsible one. I'd say it was his own damn fault, wouldn't you? And after, Frank giving Sally a load of flannel just made me ill. She was eating it all up and now she is giving him them looks over her shoulder and you can see the crush developing, can't you?

Why was Fiz's hands cuffed together like that? When Tracy attended Blanche's funeral, she was only tethered to the guard by one had and had the other one free (to hug Amy and to lash out at Becky!)

Poor Chesney. He's really under far more stress than a teenage boy ought to be under. Asking him to organize the funeral was probably something Fiz should have asked Roy to do rather than Chesney who hated John with a passion. John has referred to his parents on occasion. They refused to come to the prison wedding, remember? Yet they had nothing to do with organizing the funeral and weren't there. It's little things like that which annoy me.

Chesney thinks it will look badly for Fiz if there's a funeral but really, in spite of everything, it's the only decent thing to do. As much as i don't particularly like Owen, I do like how he steps up and gives Chesney some decent advice sometimes. I doubt Ches will ever look on him as a father figure, one he never had but he does talk some good sense to the lad sometimes even if it's a bit hard. i.e. Grow up, kid.

Chesney is so distracted he's not been working the market, the bills are mounting up, and now his beloved Schmeichel is ill. In spite of all the bills, Chesney is willing to risk house and home to try to save his dog but he's got to face the sad facts. Schmeichel is too ill and really needs to be put down and Chesney has to make that difficult decision. Chesney and Katy ask Owen for a loan but Owen will only pay for the rent since the vet has said the dog probably won't live. Ches however, takes the money and pays the vet and insists that Schmeichel go through a fruitless operation because he can't let go. What a sad storyline.

We find out that Fiz met John when she was 13 and he was 19. So even then he had a thing for young schoolgirls. It also solves the mystery of timing. I never figured it out because we met Fiz at 15 when Roy and Hayley fostered her for a bit and she returned a few months later at 16 after leaving school. I reckoned there wasn't much time for her to meet John in those few months and I thought he was already a teacher when they met. I may be wrong. But then they may also have tweaked history a bit. Not for the first time too. How would you know at 13 you'd met the love of your life, after all?

Sophie gets a birthday party to which all the aged neighbours are invited. Why on earth would Sally insist on that for a 17 year old? Why on earth would Sophie agree to it? Jeff manipulated Rosie into a media interview about the kidnapping but in the process, she was duped into telling all about her family's private business which Jeff probably gave to them beforehand and which got Jeff dumped by Sally when she found out. Rosie isn't savvy enough to side step the questions as much as she thinks she is so he as the manipulator must take the blame but Rosie is still in the doghouse again. Of course the tabloid is sensationalizing it and twisting it. I seriously doubt that Rosie actually said being kidnapped made her feel sexy. And again, All the upset with Rosie at the centre takes the attention away from Sophie and her birthday party. I agree, Sally didn't do anything for that party except cause aggro.

Cheryl and Chris are canoodling behind Lloyd's back now they have a little love nest in Jason's flat. Peter and Leanne are back from their holiday and Leanne has sussed out Cheryl's secret. Cheryl tries to justify her actions and she and Leanne have an argument over it. Russ seems to be kicking off just because his father has moved 20 feet across the street. Chris continues to put Cheryl off when she wants to go to the doctor with him. This being in remission is hard work!

But Lloyd became suspicious...He thought he'd go to the hospital and offer Chris a ride home after his treatment only to find out Chris hasn't been there at all and Chris lied to Lloyd about it when questioned...That's odd. And Cheryl has completely dismissed Chris' former violent behaviour (which by the way, is not being blamed on the tumour which is something, i suppose. I hate that sort of "get out of jail free" plotline. His violence far pre-dated the symptoms he started having with the tumour). Chris also seems to have a lot more energy which fuels Lloyd's suspicions and ...

The more Lloyd digs into it, the more it seems something's not right. Everyone keeps asking the doctor trying to find out information which they ought to know better and when the doctor talks to Chris about it, well naturally his inner nasty comes out. Lloyd confronts Cheryl and Chris, she's close mouthed and Chris finally blurts out the truth out of spite. He and Cheryl are together again. Smug and triumphant is Chris. Shocked and appalled is Cheryl, torn between two lovers. Broken hearted is Lloyd. You don't often see a man crying in the bog on his best mate's shoulder after a breakup, though do you?

And you know what? Aside from Lloyd's agony, i just don't care. Cheryl has always been a dull character along with her gormless son and Chris just adds more dull to the dullness. Even their name, Grey, is dull. I hate them hurting Lloyd but she was never good enough for him. And to make matters worse, all Cheryl is going to do is move in to the flat with Chris and Russ, right across the street from Lloyd. Was there any need for that, I ask you?

Sophie and Sian have bought engagement rings in spite of their parents forbidding a wedding. Faye's adoption is final but though she's pleased about that, she's not so keen to figure out Anna and Owen are a couple and have been hiding it rather than being open and honest with her.And isn't Gary an excellent big brother! Fair point. Nice that they've written Rememberence Day into the show with Gary going to services.

Julie and Brian have taken over Janice's old flat, and that's the one Chesney and Katy were living in as well. Now they're camping out on a chilly Red Rec in November looking for UFOs and doing the deed al fresco! So who is the bailiff collecting for, the one that was knocking on Chesney's door? I suppose it's for Number 5 as that's a council house. If Katy's not back to school and she's not working, can she not apply for benefits while she's pregnant? Speaking of which, Brian suggests Julie would be a great mother and they decide to make a baby. Watch this space.

Tina is taking great pleasure in running around the house in a towel which makes Kirsty seethe because she reckons Tyrone could easily fancy Tina and this is just flaunting herself. Tyrone didn't even notice. Thing is, I bet Tina never did that before Kirsty was around. And Kirsty is already showing signs of being posessive isn't she? Not a woman's woman either is she?

Carla is still struggling to keep the factory afloat while Frank makes inroads. She can't even pay the workers, it's getting that bad and when they complain, Carla snaps and chucks them all out. It leads a couple more workers to go over the Fosterworld. It's easy for Hayley and Sean to be upset at the others, but they have alternate incomes. Just in time, Michelle and Ciaran arrive back from the high seas, send Carla for a break (how did she afford the cost of the ticket?) and Michelle prepares to be Underworld's saviour. They're planning a wedding but it doesn't look like Ciaran is getting the exotic beach ceremony they thought they'd have.

Michelle tries to nick all the staff back from Frank and frankly, working for Anne and Sally would have had me running back with great relief! Anne's attitude certainly drove Julie and Izzy and a non-speaking extra back to Underworld. Isn't Anne awful/wonderful? What a great character! Michelle also put her pride to one side and asked Nick for help which he kindly gives. That will keep the factory going at least while Carla's away and Ciaran is feeling very left out now that Michelle has mysteriously morphed into a dynamic business woman able to leap tall factory debts and rescue things where Carla with far more experience wasn't able to.

Michelle had to bend to her mother's will to have the wedding there in Weatherfield. Ciaran should have seen that coming, being Irish himself. He should know what an Irish mama is like! It's good to see him back though he looks awfully thin! Now he's having to do more of the wedding organizing and he doesn't look too happy about it.

Paul comes back into Eileen's circle after she points him to Brian for a school safety talk. Jason's not happy about it and nor should he be. Ok it's Eileen's life and her decision but it's a really bad one. If she was just going to be Paul's friend that's fine. I'm sure he could use all the friends he could get but she fancies the pants off him and he does her and with a wife that's ill like Lesley is, it's just a bad situation all around. Where is Frank's factory anyway? I thought it was some distance from Underworld but everyone still seems able to pop into the pub and cafe willy nilly. And why on earth would Paul ask Eileen to help him find his wife? And why would he drive all the way back over to thank her? Well because he can't keep away.

Nice, bright and clear moon with the sparklers going off in front of it. Entirely fake but it was pretty anyway. Kirsty has even more hair than Cheryl! It's clear there's only room in the neighbourhood for one of them! Oh Lloyd how could you be happy in that pink chintz-filled house?

And just so you know, this week's episodes originally aired Oct. 31 - Nov. 11 and we are now just 4 months behind!
