Sunday Canadian Corrie Comments, November 6

Sophie is so glad to have Sian back from her holidays but oh dear, was Sian flirting with someone else while away? Holiday romance? Jealousy will not win you friends, my dear. It's too bad she's not shagging Dev, she could have a baby and he'd give her the flat over the shop like all his other women! (Sorry. Low blow?) She also finds out her father has sold her home out from under her, nobody has time to talk to her, and feels even the church has abandoned her along with her beloved Sian who's flounced off in a strop, chafing against the jealousy. Kevin and Sally both are too preoccupied to take any notice of her even after Sunita expresses her worry. Sophie gets drunk and hits bottom. Literally. Off the top of the church in front of the horrified vicar that shunned her and her lesbian lifestyle. I wonder if that will teach him a valuable lesson. Maybe.

Will it teach Sally and Kevin? Not likely, seeing as they couldn't even contain themselves from screaming at each other over her hospital bed? Each was as bad as the other, though Kevin may have had the edge in ignorant sexist rude rantings. Probably because he felt guilty for brushing Sophie off. Well, Sian really told them off well and truly.

Nobody's surprised that Tracy managed to be at the right place at the wrong time to witness Sunita's row with Becky, are they? Looks like Hayley managed to put a seed of compassion in Sunita's mind so Becky and Steve are off the hook. After all, the money was returned. If not, Becky would be banged up again. Tracy's wetting herself trying to find out what happened as is Norris, for different reasons. Tracy just wants to have something more to use against Becky while Norris is just a gossipy old busybody. Sunita and Dev are backing off but want nothing to do with the McDonalds ever again. Until they want a drink a few hours after they've given Becky and Steve a piece of their mind and don't want to walk 2 or 3 more blocks to the Flying Horse or the Weathy Arms, that is. And they keep coming in and even sitting at the bar instead of glaring from across the room. If this was reality, I certainly wouldn't patronize a business whose owners did that to me!

Steve is starting to feel the pressure of having to clean up Becky's messes all the time. Feel familiar, Steve? He does seem to pick impulsive women with a lot of baggage. They may be exciting but they're damn hard work. And Tracy, she's just as much of a loose cannon. She might be handy with a blunt object but bear-baiting Becky might not really be such a good idea.

It's just so utterly stupid and contrived that on her very first day as an office assistant, or even if it's a trainee assistant manager, that Maria or anyone else would be thrown at a client to get an order. Carla is just as sexy as Maria after all. Frank came on pretty strong to Maria but it didn't really look like an attempted rape to me though it was unwanted and could be considered a sexual assault nonetheless. There was no anger or power, just arrogance involved. He didn't say she had to do it or he wouldn't give them the order. Frank backpedalled and said he misread the signals. If a pretty girl came to your house alone, dressed like that, would you think she was sending signals? If so, ok, try it on but in the end, "No means No", not "No means give it another go". Even Carla, who backed up Maria at first, but saw the big order Frank gave them was in jeopardy, thought maybe Maria over reacted. Maria, rightly so, feels betrayed. Frank scared her and creeped her out and she feels how she feels so it's valid.

Of course this was meant to be Michelle but if she'd been in that storyine, she'd have hauled off and kneed him hard before running off. She'd not have been a scared and traumatized little mouse. Michelle would have been a lot more used to fending off men.

Owen has taken his revenge on Eileen as well as spread his nasty accusations all over the pub to make sure her repuatation is in tatters. What a classic bully he is! Really horrible and possibly in the same boat that brought us Charlie Stubbs. He wants to be careful and he should probably avoid blunt objects if he's ticked anyone off too much. Making a fake apology to Eileen, no hard feelings? The damage has already been done.

David has proposed to "Candy" by text message. Is that what this world is coming to??? Was anyone surprised that "Candy" turned out to be Kylie? I guess she must have burned through the money out on one of those Greek Islands and went to the Canary Islands, dancing in a cage to make ends meet.
Before anyone says it, (and even if you already have), David did make out like he "met" "Candy" out in Teneriffe but most likely had to have at least seen Kylie on the Street. I know she wasn't really around all that long but considering that he wasn't at all surprised when people were calling her by "Kylie" when she arrived back on the Street as cage dancer/fiancee, i'm sure it was all a set up. They didn't want anyone to know who she really was until she made her appearance so David pretended he didn't know her previously. And to be fair, even though he may have known who she was, he didn't know her. I think David and Kylie will be a match made in soap heaven/hell and it will be good fun watching her and Gail at each other, hammer and tongs and it's already started!

It's funny that Gail thought "Candy" was taking advantage of David, out for all she could get. It's not as if David is the Captain of Industry. He's still living with his mummy, has a job as junior stylist trainee in a back street salon, no car, he's not really all that much of a catch but it turns out he's been exaggerating his role in the salon, so she probably did think she was on to something good. I do believe that they are infatuated if not in lurve, though. I thought Gail was going to implode when she met Kylie as her prospective daughter-in-law. If Ivy Tilsley thought Gail Potter was a wrong'un for her Brian, can you imagine welcoming someone like Kylie into the bosum of your family?

I think we're in for a lot of fun with this one and i actually think David and Kylie could turn out to be a really great couple. And we're out of the gate on day one. Kylie is bouncing around the kitchen to Lady GaGa on the radio. Old Poker Face comes downstairs in her dressing gown, complaining because Kylie has nicked her egg custard and Kylie later chucked it in the garbage anyway. HA! Then Kylie found out about David's deception and smacked him upside the face. HA!
Hugely funny scene with the older lady getting all hot and bothered and randy by David's head massage, only to turn around later and discover she'd died under the dryer! Then Audrey decided she had to do the old girl's hair before the ambulance picked her up. At least with that, Audrey has experience. If you recall, she used to work with Archie Shuttleworth. But it's made Audrey think and she thinks she might give David the salon before she dies. Kylie's eyes go *ching ching*! More laughs with Aud and Claud staking out Marc's house and talking about comb-overs. And Norris facing that dog over the back gate!!! hahaha!!

Xin is in dire straits. Her visa is running out and she hasn't got a job that she's been training for. Howerver she *does* have a job, won't that be enough to continue a work visa rather than a student visa? And if she gets a job, she can renew her visa no problem. She's got a well qualified degree and i find it hard to believe that she couldn't get a job as a psychiatric nurse anywhere in the U.K. Graeme thinks someone might be reluctant to hire someone not from the U.K. In what reality does he live? She might not have any family left in China but that sort of training would be snapped up.

What's the solution? A fake marraige for immigration purposes between Graeme and Xin after a fake breakup with Tina while Xin grins like a smug fool right beside her. Not that they're trying to encourage it for the viewers. No. I don't think Graeme meant to scream that crack about Tina's dad, ouch that hurts but it made it all more realistic and Tina gains the sympathy of the neighbours and a place to stay, with Rita, which probably gives Rita a few less collywobbles in her new place.

What do you predict will happen? It's pretty standard soap opera fare in my book. Couple gets wed to keep one in the country and then falls in love for real. You don't really think this WON'T happen do you? I fear this is a very contrived storyline and it's going to be ugly, people, very "fast forward" worthy. You've been warned. It would have been a lot more believable if they'd introduced Xin more than 5 minutes ago and have a genuine friendship develop first.

Chesney has that van but as far as I know, he doesn't have a license. Wasn't he depending on Kirk to drive it when he needed it and Fiz for the insurance? Why not rent it out to Gary? He wasn't going to use it, only "might need it". He could ask for a cut of the profits. Since when is Janice so broke that she can't afford her flat? You know, the one she's lived in for years alone aside from a few months with Trevor. Now she's moving in with Julie. Maybe it's more for company after being burgled, i suppose. Poor little Faye is having a tough time adjusting to a new family, and that tough time goes both ways. That eggshell carpet is still installed, clearly.

Just a couple of days ago, Dev and Sunita decide they're going to have to sell the other shops. It's barely been a day or two and he's already got them registered with an estate agent and got offers? If it's that much of an attraction, shouldn't the business be doing well anyway? I see Kylie has inherited her tonsil hockey skills from her sister.

Collywobbles last week for Sunita going into the shop for the first time. This week it's Rita's turn. It didn't help that Norris decided to rename the business, wiping out all Rita's memories. It was amusing when Norris stood for the opening to make a speech, with his notes as thick as Sports Illustrated. The new name was Mary's idea but on this score, I can't really blame Norris for being pleased and wanting to put his own mark on it but realistically, can you really conceive of a Coronation Street without The Kabin? Thought not. As long as Rita rules the roost, there will be one and Norris backed down when he realized how upset Rita was after a good telling off from Saint Emily. You don't forget that any time soon! Tina did a lovely thing too, restoring some of the damaged photos she salvaged for Rita's flat. Mary isn't very funny anymore, is she? She's becoming rather nasty these days.

Baby Hope is home! I bet Fiz is frantic with worry wondering if she'll cope. She's already told Ches that Schmeichel has to go. Dog germs, you know. and Fiz is desperate enough to "borrow" some of Joy's cash that was given to her fraudulently. Oh, this isn't going to end well. Rosie and Jason talk of getting a flat. What about the one Jason already owns that's been newly rebuilt?

Why couldn't Sally rent Jason's flat? Everyone really seems to have forgotten all about it. I still don't understand how Kevin could sell the house without Sally's consent since she must have her name on the deed as well. Sally's new hairdo is cute! The actress has shed her post-cancer treatment wig.

And Liz is back, with a fashion sense as shocking as ever!
