Big news for Canadian Corrie fans

I couldn't be grinning any harder than this at the moment! In fact, I could be in danger of chewing off my own ears! There's big, BIG news for Canadian Coronation Street fans who have been bitching for years about the CBC being so far behind the UK broadcasts!!

According to CBC's newly announced fall schedule, they will be showing 1 hour of Corrie every weeknight in an effort to catch up! There is no word yet on how this affects the Sunday omnibus and no word to say how long the double episodes will be airing but, you know, we should take this as a great gift and rejoice!!

Thank you CBC!!! My DVR will be working overtime. Check  your schedules closer to September for details in  your area and we'll blog it here, too, when we know more.

By the way...this will probably put the 50th anniversary week shows forward from the very end of September to about the middle of the month.

Thank you for sharing the news!

I'm going to find 22 extra minutes in the day to watch that second episode, whether it's getting up half an hour earlier or staying up half an hour later.

Hopefully the December 9th episode airs on the same day if the CBC ends up having put it into two parts. :)

... if this article is anything to go by ... it looks as though CBC will be airing two eppies of r'beloved Corrie from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. [Mondays through Fridays].

... wonder if this has anything to do with the massive response/boost in ratings that Vision TV is enjoying at the moment ... in bringing back EastEnders and Emmerdale to Canadian audiences [Mondays through Fridays]?
... which, I hasten to add, has been an absolute delight ... but I digress ...the Vision TV timeslot for these programmes has recently been changed to airing them at 6:00 p.m. and 6:30 respectively from the initial 9:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. timeslots.
... did that factor into CBC's decision, I wonder?
... either way ... colour me happy!

Interesting stuff, Faith Anne. Yes, I would say they do rely on popular non-canadian programming to bring in the viewers in order to fund their home grown productions and Corrie is one of the highest rated shows on CBC. This will definitely bring happy faces to the television. It's too bad that a large majority of the home grown programs are not usually very successful. "Riverdale" aka Driveldale comes to mind. They often will do mini series and movies quite well, though sitcoms and dramas are a bit hit and miss, at least for me.

... and thanks for the chuckle ... "Driveldale" ... what a hoot! LOL!

Great news! Thank goodness for PVR technology though. I find Corrie is on at such inconvenient times for me and I would be bummed to miss double episodes!

Rebecca: ... it doesn't bear thinking about ... does it? LOL!

--- and ---

... food for thought ... wonder if CBC will still be airing an omni on Sundays?

Last time they doubled us up, a couple of summers ago, they showed the omni in two parts, in the morning and continued in mid afternoon.

If we were a little closer to the timeline, say 4 to 6 weeks behind, Canada might start seeing cast come over for promo tours. It would be nice to see interviews over here on our breakfast TV shows like back home.

I'll take anything! I doubt we'll ever get to a 6 week window but if we can pick up 5 or 6 months, i'd be ecstatic!

I have been a Corrie fan since 1971 and when I firsted started watching it was always 6 months behind, for years and years, I can remember getting excited as June approached every year as that was when you got to see the christmas episodes and the new year ones for the year we were in. Then somehow with them cancelling the street with olympic coverages and hockey play-offs we have gotten to the 10 month window, I would be ever so grateful if we just got back to that 6mth time difference!

HOpefully they continue to catch up. It seems like once hockey season stats, Corrie tends to get pushed around the schedule or doubled up as it is. Half the time my PVR doesn't find it.
