Corrie 50th anniversary storyline spoiler revealed

As you  know, this blog is mainly spoiler free, but with spoiler warnings or links if things will be revealed. I'm parting from this rule because we are approaching the storylines that will all converge on the 50th anniversary of Coronation Street which aired in December last year.

Since many of the blog posts here are reposted for our timeline (with permission) from The Coronation Street blog when they were originally written last year, it's getting more and more difficult to repost things without mentioning this one major storyline that's coming up. I've made an executive decision and am going to reveal what a lot of you already know (but only in part).

The major storyline for the 50th anniversary (that we should see probably early October) will involve the tram at the end of the street, the one we see only on the opening credits chugging by on the viaduct. The one nobody ever takes into town, preferring the bus. The one we never even hear, even though Underworld is currently underneath it. All that is soon going to change, however. We will start to hear sound effects of it going by from the outside at least. All this is to remind us that it's actually there because .... it's going to crash!

There will be an explosion and the tram will come flying off the viaduct which will collapse. The Kabin and the Corner shop will be destroyed. Several people will die (and we on this blog will not reveal who, aside from speculation now and then!). Things will never be the same!

If this storyline sounds familiar then think back to 1967 when a train came off the viaduct  resulting in the death of minor character, Sonia Peters. This time round however, it's likely to be used as an opportunity for a more major cull of characters. The events from the night of the crash will be aired over a week's worth of episodes, including a live hour long episode (CBC probably will cut this in half over two nights) on the actual 50th anniversary (which was December 9, 2010).

Yes, I've seen this already and you will be on the edge of your seats!

Edited to add: According to the calculations of someone I know that keeps track of these things, we should see the beginning of the Tram Crash episodes starting on Sept. 26 if CBC stays on track. The episodes will run over the week and into the first week of October.

Do you know the air date in Canada of the episode in which the tram crashes?

I don't know the air date yet, but i should be able to figure it out a little closer to the time, hopefully by the end of summer. It's dependent on CBC and you know they can always mess with the schedule.
